Abstract

This study explored teachers’ epistemic emotions and their data visualization literacy (DVL), the ability to interpret and extract information from data visualizations. Participants (n = 178) were teachers who completed a DVL assessment and an epistemic emotion scale measuring positive and negative emotions during the DVL assessment. They were groups according to their scores on the DVL assessment. The results of multinomial logistic regression show that negative emotions were the significant predictor of DVL scores. When negative emotions increased, the DVL scores would decrease. However, the positive epistemic emotions were found to have no significant impact on DVL. Our findings provide valuable insight into the role of epistemic emotions in the emerging area of DVL of teachers.
