Adapting Schools to Gifted Students' Needs: Collaborative Strategies Between Scientific Research and School Practice

Thu, April 13, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Floor: 7th Floor, Grand Ballroom Salon III

Abstract

In the German school development project known as LemaS, researchers and school practitioners collaborated at eye-level to develop, apply, and review adaptive methods and instruments that can be used to enhance gifted education and shape individual school improvement processes. Results from field observations, questionnaire surveys, and focus groups offer new insights into school improvement processes and help to identify supporting and hindering factors. A particular focus was set on the roles of collaborating researchers and school members in these processes. It is discussed in what ways the findings allow to deduct lasting and transferable models of scientific assistance in school improvement projects and of beneficial research-practice collaborations.
