Problem-based learning (PBL) is an inquiry-based approach to learning where students learn through their engagement with a real-world problem. Through solving authentic problems, students not only acquired subject disciplinary knowledge but also the skills, dispositions and confidence required for problem-solving. During the COVID-19 pandemic, technology has provided greater connectivity and minimise disruptions to learning. Thus, the synergy of PBL and e-learning must be explored to make PBL learning more effective. The focus of this study is to examine the effects of PBL (tPBL and ePBL) on preservice teachers’ teaching efficacies. This understanding will inform teacher educators on the refinements of PBL and ePBL practices to develop their students’ teaching efficacies during their initial teacher preparation programme.
