This paper reports on a study capturing the voices of marginalised migrant youth in Australia learning to be critically literate in a post-truth world. These youth engage in complex online worlds posing opportunities and risks. Using qualitative, dialogic methods, and recontextualization as a conceptual construct, the study deliberately identified an essential site for empirical research – those of migrant youth in and out of high school - and engaged with them iteratively about their critical literacies. The paper identifies key critical literacy practices offered to them in school by teachers, and those used by the youth out-of-school. Drawing connections between in and out of school reading benefits migrant youth to strategically manage critical reading in complex, contemporary environments.
