Abstract

Most of the writing theories were developed by understanding adults’ writing, which overrides children’s voices. Child’s acts and feelings deserve close attention and serve an ideal place to foreground children’s perspectives. Empirical studies have shown that beginning writers are not inclined to revise. My study further developed this research focus through a case study design. In this study, I explored four 7- and 8-year-old children’s revision development for three terms, using an ethnographic approach to observe, document and engage as an “adult friend” (Dyson & Genishi, 2005) in classrooms. The focus of the presentation will be to provide an overall picture of the study, present major findings and to interact with researchers and teachers about their insights on the findings.
