This paper proposes two analytic templates for analyzing language incorporation within translingual picturebooks and applies the templates to conduct a content analysis of over 30 translingual picturebooks, spanning over 30 languages beyond English. Applying the two analytic templates resulted in a complete profile for each book and provided a wealth of descriptive quantitative data. The preliminary findings reveal a high frequency of nouns, particularly “F-nouns” in translingual picturebooks: Family, Food, Fashion, Festival, Folklore, Faith, Flora, Fauna. Additionally, translanguaging occurred more frequently in narrative text than dialogue across the picturebook sample. Follow-up qualitative content analysis was also conducted to shed light on the implicit language ideologies and privileges conveyed through the translingual design elements of each book.
