Abstract

Research indicates that teachers of color can positively impact student achievement in K-12 classrooms. As such, creating a diverse and effective teacher pipeline should be prioritized in order to provide all students with a high-quality education. The following study takes an intersectional qualitative research approach to explore the perceptions and attitudes of the attendees of an education conference aiming to support future educators, which will be held this upcoming August at a predominantly white institution (PWI) located in Alabama. Through an intersectional lens, this research study aims to examine the educational stakeholders’ perspectives on increasing the percentage of historically minoritized students enrolled and retained in UA’s teacher education programs in order to actively benefit the individuals and communities under investigation.
