Abstract

Scholarly positionality and researcher identity are loaded subjects in educational research. Who has the right to access certain topics and lived experiences related to topics in multicultural education and theory? This examination of positionality uses Stanley Fish’s concept of interpretive community to pose a new lens through which scholars, especially white scholars who work with multicultural topics and diverse communities, can best approach their material and research subjects. What does the interpretive community demand from writers, researchers, and readers alike, and how can we better navigate areas of difference to better and more respectfully engage in scholarly conversation around diversity, access, and equity?
