Digital Critical Pedagogy: A Collaborative Narrative Literature Review

Thu, April 13, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

At the intersection of an ongoing global pandemic and equity-focused movements, critical and digital pedagogies became necessary and important. Digital ways of teaching made education possible, provided alternative modes of learning and thinking, but also, exacerbated inequalities. We engage in a narrative literature review to examine how Digital Critical Pedagogy has been framed in higher education pedagogy research; we ask: How is Digital Critical Pedagogy being defined, operationalized, and enacted in the emerging research literature? We argue that the analysis of Critical Digital Pedagogy is essential work, as there is no normal to which we can return, no undoing of the alternative modes discovered, and no moral path forward without continuing to face existing historical and systemic injustice.
