Abstract

Some adult education schools in German offer a blended learning course to obtain a degree for university entrance. As educators teaching in this course have long-time experience in designing online or blended learning, it can be assumed that they were well-prepared for distance education during the pandemic-induced school closures. We conducted an online-survey and compared instructors teaching in the blended learning course to educators teaching in presence only and thus being less experienced in online or blended learning. The analyses indicate that educators in the blended learning course felt more competent during the school closures and assumed an expert role as they were asked for advice by colleagues who were unexperienced in designing online or blended learning.
