Sat, April 15, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze mentoring of prospective teachers in two different international contexts, India and Spain, by using a mixed method research approach drawing on two data sources: quantitative data was collected using an internationally validated instrument, the Mentoring Profile Inventory (MPI) to survey 42 Indian and 30 Spanish mentors, and qualitative data was collected through a series of semi-structured interviews with 6 respondents to the survey (3 Indian and 3 Spanish). The analysis determined the major motivators and challenges of mentors from these two countries. Understanding what motivates and challenges teacher mentors serves as a base to reflect upon the essential components of mentorship in both contexts.
