QuantQueer: Renovating Quantitative Methods Through Queer and Critical Theories

Abstract

Quantitative methods and queer theory and queer studies have been viewed as largely incompatible. In fact, critical theoretical perspectives have, in general, been thought of as at odds with quantitative methods and their positivistic roots, histories in eugenics, and ongoing use in oppressive discourses. In recent years, scholars have worked to rectify quantitative methods using Critical Race Theory, resulting in QuantCrit. Other critical quantitative methods have also been proposed. In this paper, I attempt to imagine a quantitative approach informed by queer theory as well as the work already done in QuantCrit using CRT.
