They Only Hate the Term: Explaining Opposition to History Curricula and Critical Race Theory

Abstract

The exploding culture war has led to an an attack on critical race theory. However, while the civics education policy debate persists, little is known about the politics around CRT and antiracist teaching. Using a series of surveys with embedded experiments, I find evidence that the politicization of the term 'critical race theory' is what primarily drives opposition.
