The development of student heritage language skills has important implications for immigrant families. However, it is quite rare for Korean students in the United States to have an opportunity to learn their heritage language at public schools. One educational opportunity accessible to Korean American students in a rural Midwest community has been offered through a local Korean school. The purpose of this study is to understand how this Korean school supports students’ learning of heritage language and understanding its culture. A qualitative case study (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016) was used for this study. Preliminary findings suggest that Korean American students have built their language skills as well as understood the cultural aspects as a result of participating in the school.
