Thu, April 13, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: East Tower - Exhibit Level, Riverside West Exhibition Hall

Abstract

This longitudinal study investigated people’s sentiments toward emergency online special education in English tweets posted from January 10 to August 16 2021 when mass vaccinations started and became available. The results indicated that target tweets included more positive sentiments towards emergency online special education than neutral and negative ones as well as having a relatively positive average daily sentiment score over time. These findings strongly suggest that people may have become hopeful and more positive regarding emergency online special education in terms of meeting students’ special needs. In other words, people’s reactions to emergency online special education on Twitter improved and became more positive in a year or so after the pandemic started.
