Abstract

This paper presents the results of an exploratory case study which explores the challenges of extreme e-Service Learning in virtual higher education focusing on a specific critical aspect: the collaborative and co-creative nature of Service Learning. The empirical context is an e-Service Learning course, part of a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Three main aspects are analyzed in this study: a) the collaborative and co-creative dynamics followed by students during the learning process, b) the online monitoring, feedback and assessment strategies carried out by course instructors, and c) the perception of community partners regarding the collaboration established with the University and with the students through virtual communication tools.
