The purpose of this paper is to critically interrogate the prevailing paradigm of knowledge production in the field and academic discipline of early childhood development, education and care: the paradigm of the of the universal, individual child and its development, of decontextualised knowledge and its creation, of simplistic measurement and comparison, and of policies and practices as tools for solving distinct social problems by distinct professions and academic disciplines.
The paper below outlines an approach to the investigation through three interconnecting fields of tension, that offer the possibility of a radical transdisciplinary paradigm shift that recognises the pursuit of truth through embracing global justice and multiple ways of being, knowing, and doing in critical early childhood scholarship.
