Abstract

Understanding parental perceptions on the importance of different educational outcomes may facilitate more efficient allocation of the limited educational resources to effectively meet the needs of the students and families. This study extended previous literatures by focusing on the perceived outcome priorities of Chinese parents of children with ASD to find out the cultural impact on parents’ perceptions of educational outcomes including friendship. Specifically, researchers examined Chinese parents’ rating and ranking of the importance of friendship compared with other educational outcomes based on parents’ feedbacks. Results showed Chinese parents’ rating on the importance of friendship differed by age of children with ASD, but not affected by school settings their children attending. Further implications were also discussed.
