Abstract

This study examines how a Latina community college transfer student experienced unwelcoming interactions in the Engineering environment she faced at a public university where she was pursuing her degree in Engineering. This study extends the science identity and sense of belonging frameworks by uncovering how a student’s mental well-being was hindered while attempting to complete this degree. Findings emphasize the importance of investing in efforts to implement more culturally responsive approaches in Engineering settings.
