A Meta-Ethnography of Successful School Principals in Europe and the United States

Abstract
By applying meta-ethnography to case studies in the International Successful School Principal Project (ISSPP), this study discussed what success is and how schools achieve success. The study analyzed 53 articles and 9 chapters across four European countries and USA. The findings point out that students’ academic achievement in the broad sense lies at the center of school success, but other aspects of school success vary in nations. Also, contributors to school success, such as organizational structures, collective culture, leadership values and vision, and teachers’ and families’ efforts and involvement, share similarities and differences in accordance with various political, geographical, demographic, and cultural contexts.
