"Do Our Children Get What They Need?" Gifted Children in Rural and Central Regions: Resource-Oriented Approach

Abstract

The current research was aimed at mapping the available and desirable resources for gifted children and their families in both rural and central regions. The research is based on the resource-oriented approach for gifted education (Ziegler et al., 2017) that relates to five exogenous learning resources. Interviews were conducted with 26 parents and educators from the two regions. It was found that interviewees from both regions described the available resources similarly, excluding the economic materials that are less available in the rural region. Furthermore, in the rural region, personal parental and educational knowledge resources are perceived as more desirable than in the center. The findings indicate the complexity of resources for the gifted as being more family-centered than community- or region-centered.
