Abstract

Understanding and supporting students’ social and emotional (SEL) competencies is particularly relevant because students use these competencies to navigate interpersonal relationships in schools and digitally, make responsible health decisions, and engage in academic instruction. The intersection of standards, SEL programs and practices, and assessments have not been widely tested, making it important to explore how SEL assessments and programs can partner together to guide practice and achieve student success. Using a mixed-methods approach, this project explored what kind of professional learning is needed to support educators in using formative SEL assessment and to guide their instruction equitably across all students. Preliminary results regarding how educators used SEL assessment data to guide instructional decisions, specifically with an SEL program, are explored.
