Positive and Negative Thoughts: A Study of Student Self-Talk

Fri, May 5, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, Social and Emotional Learning SIG Virtual Paper Room

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate students’ positive and negative thoughts calculated by the absolute distance of the ratio between frequencies of positive thoughts verses the sum of the frequencies of positive and negative thoughts. The optimal ratio (analyzed as a percentile) at 61.8% is the golden proportion of positive thoughts for coping with stress. Further analysis will include classifying positive and negative thoughts rations into five distinct States-of-Mind categories.
