An Exploratory Job Announcement Analysis of Learning Experience Design Professionals

Abstract

Interest in learning experience design (LXD) is growing in research and practice, but LXD remains a novel phenomenon relative to the historical canon of the instructional design field. Given the explosion of interest and practice of LXD by practitioners in the labor market, the purpose of this study is to examine core professional competencies for learning experience designers through a qualitative and quantitative job announcement analysis based on a corpus of 388 job posts. This study adapted the established conceptual framework for instructional design professionals with an LXD lens. The findings of this study revealed not only the LXD job positions’ characteristics but also the LXD professionals' competencies in the three domains of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
