In Event: AERA Poster Session Fifteen
In Poster Session: The Student Experience Through Interventions
Utilizing data from a 2019 administration of the National Survey of Student Engagement, this study uses structural equation modeling techniques to explore the influence of student-faculty interactions and students’ perceptions of their quality of interaction with institutional agents (i.e., advisors, staff, and faculty) on first-generation students’ sense of belonging at a public flagship university. Specifically, we explore the direct effects of the frequency of student-faculty interactions on sense of belonging, the mediating role of the quality of interactions with institutional agents, and analyze the differences between non-first-generation and first-generation students.
