Abstract

This phenomenological qualitative study examines the nullification of peace-related topics in the Turkish school curriculum by examining future-teachers’ experiences in schools. By analyzing their lived experiences, we aim to understand the reasons for nullification of peace-related concepts in schools and how they plan to construct a curriculum for teaching peace in their professional lives. We employed a three-part semi-structured interview approach for this research. The data analysis revealed future teachers’ memories about peace objectives and activities, hidden curriculum of war and patriotism, and nullification of peace objectives and its reasons. The underlying factors are discussed in relation to structural challenges and teacher agency in peace education practices.
