Design-Based Development of a Teachers' Training Arrangement to Promote Potential-Oriented Attitudes in Context of Gifted Education

Abstract

The aim of the LemaS-initiative is to foster gifted and potentially-gifted students in German classrooms. Research shows that students benefit from a growth-oriented, potential-oriented attitude of teachers. Teachers, however, often have a deficit-oriented attitude. We address the question of how a potential-oriented attitude can be developed in teachers, especially in context of gifted education. There is a lack of training for in-service teachers in Germany. We meet this gap by formulating design-principles for an in-service teachers training-arrangement based on a literature review. The training-arrangement developed on this design-principles is then implemented by participating teachers. To systematically record the feedback from practice and use it for modification, an expert review questionnaire was developed capturing the practical experiences regarding the central design-principles.
