Participatory Research: A Humanistic Approach to Higher Education in Prison Research

Abstract

Majority of the research about justice-involved communities in prison and higher education in prison uses research methodologies and approaches that do not include justice-involved students as co-constructors of knowledge. This scholarly paper is an integrative literature review exploring studies which employ participatory research approaches and discusses the importance and value of using participatory research methods to reform higher education research practices and hummanize justice-involved communities in prison.
