This paper explores how a rural school district provides computer science education in elementary schools and document what distinct challenges that brings about. We engaged in several methods of data collection, including pre and post surveys and lab specialist interviews. Data was transcribed, coded and analyzed to understand lab specialist experiences. Findings reveal that lab specialists enjoy a strong community, learning and sharing resources electronically while also highlighting challenges faced, including being tasked with multiple jobs and part-time employment. The findings will help better support the computer science education needs of students within this community and illustrate under-examined complexities of those with part-time status who play larger educational roles in their schools than might be assumed.
