Fri, April 14, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

English learner (EL) students are the fastest-growing school-age population in the U.S. Although a substantive scholarship has focused on enhancing English language and content-area teaching practices, much less literature has focused on enhancing school leadership for TESOL education. Using the theoretical framework of Bourdieu’s practice theory, this study systematically selected and critically reviewed the research literature on effective CRSL practices that promote cultural diversity and inclusive learning environments for EL students. Based on the literature review, the study proposes research-based, practice-oriented CRSL approaches for promoting equitable and inclusive language education for EL students. Implications are provided on how educational stakeholders can implement CRSL to advocate for equitable and diverse school settings for EL students.
