Plática as Methodology and Method: Using a Critical Lens to Research Latina/o/x College Students

Abstract

This methodological paper adds to the growing empirical research on plática as methodology and method through a critical lens when conducting research on marginalized populations; thus cultivating equitable educational and research systems for the 21st century. Using our plática dissertation studies as examples, which focus on AfroLatinx/a/o students and queer and trans Latinx/a/o students, we demonstrate how using critical consciousness and Latino critical race theory enable transformative ways to center and research Latinx/a/o college students' experiences.
