Sat, April 15, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

Our proposed presentation is focused on a project and corresponding research focuses on a reciprocal relationship among schools, communities, and democracy. We examine how community constituencies and schools make use of their neighborhoods and communities. Our research stems from a project focused on civics education, one that includes innovative strategies for history, geography, government, and media literacy. This project involves K-12 administrators, teachers, and students with an emphasis on low-income, marginalized, and underrepresented students and those who work with them. Our proposed presentation will provide an overview, share the results, and report the initial findings from this project.
