A Tool for School and Community Leaders to Assess a School’s Role Amid Changing Contexts (Poster 32)

Abstract

Rural schools and communities are facing unprecedented challenges and must address these challenges in a way that leads to equitable educational opportunity and community vitality.. Through a case analyses of a single rural community, we use a comprehensive assessment tool to highlight a wide-range of dependencies and priorities between the school and the community it serves. By joining school and community leaders in conversation, previously siloed groups can brainstorm ways to work together, prioritize budgets, and identify and/or enhance partnerships for a shared purpose. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how school and community leaders react to and use the tool in conversation, bringing in multiple perspectives and sources of evidence to consult during the decision-making process.
