Abstract

Perceived isolation and confusion regarding roles in the academic environment are associated with low Ethnic/racial minority (ERM) student retention and graduation in the United States. We performed a meta-analysis to assess the relative effectiveness of mentoring interventions on ERM undergraduate student retention. We determined a comparable effect size using heterogeneity measures and an unconditional random effects model. Results indicated mentorship could influence retention in ERM students, highlighting the value of implementing mentoring intervention for ERM undergraduates in higher education institutions.
