Abstract

Institutions of higher education are called to diversify their faculty to better serve a growing diverse student population. This is particularly pressing at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) whose students and faculty ratio in terms of ethnicity shows a considerable disparity. In an urgent need to better serve Latinx students at a borderland US-Mexico institution, called Choya University, a mentoring program was initiated with early career Latinx faculty interested in giving back to the community and supporting students through mentoring. Through Latina faculty’s participation in the mentoring program, they were able to share their perspective on the changes needed in the classrooms and their intentions to be those agents of change on behalf of the Latinx student population.
