Abstract

Competency-based education (CBE) is the overarching concept that led to a grading system emphasizing mastery of outcomes. Previously the pharmacy course in our study used a traditional grading schema, with points allotted for attendance, online discussions, quizzes, assignments, major projects, and exams. However, students could still pass or even earn an “A” despite being deficient in core competencies of the course & there was no clear remediation process. The new grading schema was redesigned with one main goal: Raise the rigor of the course by requiring students to show mastery in all required competencies of the course. Using network analysis we are able to use student feedback to create design moves to make future classes more beneficial.
