Abstract

This autoethnography explores the question of who we believe should teach through vignettes of my experiences as a disabled pre-service teacher and of the semester I hosted a disabled intern when I was a high school English teacher. Highlighting moments when the author did not embody the qualities of a normative teacher, the paper invites readers to confront the ableism inherent in teacher education programs and imagine a more equitable approach.
