Abstract

Indo-Fijian American women are intelligent, strong, humble, and passionate leaders who have contributed significantly to higher education. This qualitative study examined the life histories and experiences that influenced the leadership development and practices of four Indo-Fijian American women in student affairs. The findings of this study revealed three significant themes which illustrated how their leadership development and practices center their diasporic identities and cultural practices within their leadership to create safe spaces, a home, and a sense of belonging for diverse student populations. The implications revealed the need for disaggregated data, developing professional pathways, changing hiring policies and procedures, professional networks and mentorship programs, and further research to understand Indo-Fijian American women’s higher education leadership experiences.
