Abstract

In this study, a topic model was used to analyze journal abstracts over a 15-year period in an educational research journal with an eye to understanding changes in the types of research problems being reported and the research methodologies used to address these problems. Results suggested that a 5-topic model clearly showed change in research problems and methodologies over time. Topic 2 focusing on the Teaching and Learning processes and Topic 1 focusing on stakeholders had similar trends over the 15 years included in the analysis. Topic 4 focused on psychometric methods, however, Topic 3 focused on educational policy in higher education and Topic 5 focused on experimental research had different patterns of change over years included in the analysis.
