Sat, April 15, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

In 2016, we published a synthesis of culturally relevant education (CRE) research making connections to student outcomes to bring CRE back from the margins. In this previous publication, we sought cases of research connecting CRE to positive student outcomes that were examined across various content areas. This proposal shows the updated data regarding how CRE affect-ed the outcomes from a variety of content areas between the years 2016-2022. As we reviewed more than fifty-five studies, CRE was continuing to show up in important ways across disciplines in K-12 schooling. CRE was still found to be very effective and have strong outcomes in several case studies in these subject areas, in particular, increases in student achievements and reduction of achievement gaps.
