Abstract

Trust is a fundamental part of modern society and social life. Decades of research has shown unequivocally the benefits of trust in schools for students, teachers, and administrators. That said, this literature tends to focus on particularized or relational trust and does not capture a broader sense of trust in unknown others within the school community. As such, this conceptual paper proposes the idea of community trust as a useful concept for research and practice, with implications for school communities, student learning, school improvement, and organizational management. In this paper we look at different types of trust and describe how the notion community trust in schools has the potential to capture what is missed in previous school trust literature.
