Writing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Into the History of Higher Education

Fri, May 5, 2:30 to 4:00pm CDT (2:30 to 4:00pm CDT), Division J Virtual Sessions, Division J - Postsecondary Education Virtual Paper Room

Abstract

Hispanic-Serving Institutions achieved federal recognition thirty years ago, and they presently educate nearly one-third of U.S. undergraduates. Still, they remain largely excluded from teaching and scholarship on the history of higher education. This paper accentuates this glaring omission, characterizes it as a form of epistemic injustice, and presents teaching innovations for inclusion and epistemic justice.
