Understanding the State Context for Equity Literacy: An Analysis of State Strategic Plans

Abstract

Equity is a term used broadly and pervasively throughout the educational landscape. However, within this widespread application of the term, equity, are differences in meaning and utilization. As we seek to understand teachers’ preparedness for equity literacy, understanding how states themselves view and plan to address equity, is an important piece. This paper presentation presents findings related to how equity is conceptualized and operationalized at the state level by state departments of education that create policy and related equity initiatives engaged by schools.
