Decision making and problem solving are required for engagement in conversations about global ethical issues. Increasingly, course offerings within higher education teach students critical thinking and moral reasoning. We also see students with various lived experiences and familial values that impact their learning process and internalization. How do we identify best practices that are applicable across disciplinary boundaries, and how do we measure learning outcomes to determine success? In this paper, we discuss an exploratory literature review of assessment tools in discipline-agnostic ethical reasoning assessment and ethics education. While limited, the literature on generalized ethics education suggests frequent and long-term engagement with active learning practices. We also see assessment options that extend to general education programming and aspect-specific assessment tools.
