Differences in Practice: Initial Data From a Study Comparing Personalized Learning Practice in Charter and Noncharter Schools (Poster 23)

Abstract

Personalized Learning (PL) has been offered as a set of powerful practices that can redesign the instructional routines and disrupt systemic inequities in schooling. However, because it is broadly defined and employed in a wide range of contexts, it is difficult to evaluate. This paper describes the Deep Evaluation of Personalized Learning (blinded), a survey that is designed to measure levels of PL implementation. Pilot data from DEPL shows significantly higher levels of practice in charter schools than non-charters. We suggest that these differences in practice are influenced by the leadership and organizational qualities of charter schools.
