Abstract

While the challenges that educators face during the COVID-19 pandemic are widely acknowledged, there is little scholarship that provides opportunities for teachers to share their stories. This proposal documents the experiences of two dual language elementary teachers that were a part of a qualitative multiple case study of United States educators during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a series of interviews, they named the relentless dehumanization that educators have faced pre/during pandemic, and made visible the ways in which against all odds teachers continue to enact humanizing practices towards themselves and others. The pedagogical and personal choices they made reflect an enactment of authentic cariño and provide a model for fostering critical consciousness in bilingual students.
