Collecting Complete School-Level Expenditures Data: The Expanded School-Level Finance Survey (FY 18)

Abstract

The School-Level Finance Survey (SLFS) was expanded to collect complete school-level current expenditure detail in the school year 2017-18 data collection. This R&D report focuses on the ability of SLFS to collect complete and comparable current expenditure statistics.
Most states participating in the SLFS are able to report school-level expenditure data for a high percentage of their schools and students across a high percentage of the data items;
Most states participating in the SLFS can report total current expenditures down to the school level; and
The SLFS can be used to compare key school-level current expenditure statistics across a variety of school types, including:
 School Urbanicity
 Charter School Status
 Title I status
 School Neighborhood Income-to-poverty ratio
