Scoping Educational Research on Equity and Inclusion in the Commonwealth Caribbean

Abstract

This paper is a scoping review (Xiao & Watson, 2019) of equity and inclusion in Caribbean educational research and the influence on educational development projects sponsored by international agencies. Searches were conducted in two phases. First, keyword search in EBSCOHost, ProQuest, Google Scholar, Sage and Taylor and Francis online platforms. And second, the project procurement databases of international funding agencies including the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank were searched for education sector development projects. While educational researchers focused on addressing structural inequalities in Caribbean education as the basis for resolving inequity, implying a ‘whole system’ approach, regional governments although claiming sector wide transformation, pay little attention to addressing the structural factors that would lead to real transformation.
