Abstract

Data from four cohorts of Pennsylvania adult education students were analyzed to examine rates of EFL gains, high school equivalency attainment and postsecondary enrollment. Factors that increased the likelihood of achieving these positive educational outcomes were also examined. This presentation will discuss variations in these outcomes by demographic characteristics including race, gender, age, level of education, economic standing, area of residence and education level, as well as type of adult education program. Finally, the presentation will discuss the extent to which program intensity is associated with knowledge gains, attainment of a high school credential and postsecondary enrollment. This presentation will inform education policy and practice, as more targeted efforts to support adult education students are developed.
