Abstract

The International Successful School Principalship Project (ISSPP) has been actively conducting research about the work of successful principals since 2001. This paper systematically reviewed the results of 106 empirical studies from nine countries in the ISSPP and identified successful school leadership practices likely to help students succeed academically. Guided by a well-developed framework of successful school leadership, the meta-ethnographic approach was adopted to review the research evidence. Results on successful school leadership practices in global contexts were analyzed. The findings can inform leadership preparation and professional development in different contexts. Results can also provide promising evidence for future researchers who seek to develop successful school leadership measurements. Implications are given for practice and future research.
